Luton Town FC agrees expanded athlete monitoring and video analysis deal with Catapult
The 2018/19 SkyBet League One champions Luton Town FC recently signed an extensive multi-season upgrade to their performance agreement with Catapult.
The enhanced deal will see Luton upgrade its Catapult OptimEye X4 devices to use OptimEye S5 and G5 units with the first team squad. The technology will continue to support the club’s sports science department as it seeks to quantify performance and inform decisions around training load, injury risk reduction and return-to-play.
At academy level, Luton will use X4 devices to monitor the development of its young players. The club will also introduce the Catapult Vision video analysis platform to integrate its video and athlete monitoring processes, further consolidating its impressive performance infrastructure.
Luton’s success in League One last season marked a second consecutive promotion for The Hatters as the club continues to climb the divisions after dropping out of the Football League in 2009. As Luton prepares for life in the second tier of English football, the club is focused on building a strong performance infrastructure to support coaching and sports science at all levels of the organisation.
“One of the main motivations behind this agreement with Catapult is our desire to improve the consistency of data across all levels of the club given our major emphasis on youth development,” said Paul Watson, General Operations and Development Manager at Luton Town. “We also want to better consolidate our GPS data and our video analysis operations, so having a cost-effective platform like Vision that integrates Catapult data with video is really important to us.”
