Philadelphia Union expands use of Catapult technology across academy squads

The Philadelphia Union recently extended their performance agreement with Catapult. In addition to the Union’s senior squad using Catapult technology, the recently signed deal will see Catapult’s S5 athlete monitoring devices used by the MLS franchise’s U19, U17 and U15 academy teams.

“We’ve been delighted with the reliability of Catapult’s technology and the way their outstanding sports science support has aided our processes at first team level,” said Garrison Draper, Performance Director at the Union. “With a major goal of our club being to develop players from within our academy, Catapult now allows us to objectively evaluate an athlete’s progress through age levels and track them straight into the first team. Utilizing one data stream was important to make our next steps as a performance department.”

Catapult will work closely with the club’s sports science department as they seek to optimize performance, reduce injury risk and support return-to-play processes. By using Catapult’s cloud-based OpenField software, the Union will be able to easily manage, analyze and implement key performance insights across multiple squads and age groups.

“We are excited to be working with the Philadelphia Union as their organization continues to improve the way they manage, develop and measure the performance of their athletes.” said Matt Bairos, Catapult’s CEO of Americas.

As the world leader in elite sports performance technology, Catapult provides analytical solutions to over 1,800 teams around the world, including Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Ajax, LA Galaxy, Leicester City and Bayer Leverkusen.
