Catapult continues expansion in Brazilian football

Since the launch of Catapult Vector in early 2019, we’ve seen elite teams around the world adopt the technology to further improve the way they use data to inform key decisions around athlete workload and performance.

This has been especially evident in Brazil, where many clubs in domestic football take a progressive approach to sports science and athlete monitoring. In fact, Catapult currently works with seven of the 20 Brasileiro Série A clubs.

This year, six-time Brazilian champion and three-time Copa Libertadores champion São Paulo became the first football club in Latin America to use Vector. Since then, Athletico Paranaense, Cruzeiro and Flamengo have joined o Tricolor Paulista in implementing the system for training and games.

Felipe Plato, Catapult Business Development Manager for Brazil, is excited to see the continued growth of athlete monitoring across the region.

“Catapult Vector has received a great reception in Brazilian football and we are really excited to see some of the leading domestic teams using the system to take their athlete monitoring to the next level.

“Brazilian domestic football has always been world-class on the field, but in recent seasons we’ve also witnessed a dramatic improvement in terms of the performance infrastructure at many clubs. The growing demand for our technology in Brazil is a clear sign of that.”

Developed over five years in conjunction with some of the world’s leading performance practitioners, Vector delivers new levels of accuracy, usability and efficiency to inform critical decisions around performance, injury risk and return-to-play. Fully compliant with FIFA regulations, Vector includes a range of exciting features such as integrated heart rate connectivity and dual indoor and outdoor tracking.

Playing at the Arena da Baixada, a stadium with a retractable roof, Athletico Paranaense are also installing Catapult ClearSky to enable the Vector devices to be used seamlessly in indoor or outdoor environments. The club is one of the premier teams in Brazil in terms of their application of science and technology, with a reputation for leadership and innovation around athlete monitoring.

As Brazilian football continues to develop an advanced performance culture, we’re excited to be supporting the adoption and growth of elite athlete monitoring technology in the region.
